This year my class was one of the first classes in the school to do Independent reading. Independent reading is where we read for one hour with a group or by ourselves. When we read with a group we have to write on a sheet predictions, words we need to clarify, questions we may have and we also have to write a summary on what the text was about. When we read by ourselves we have write the in our little blue books. We also have to write what page we answered either our questions or our predictions on. Every week on Tuesday a teacher named Miss Butler visits our class. She talks about a different ways to understand the book better. This week we were taught visualising. Some strategies that she has taught us have been predicting, asking questions, Text-to-self connections, text-text connections, text-to-world connections and visualising. Miss Butler has also taught us different language skills. Some of those language skills are:
Im predicting..... because....
Im agreeing with... because
I know this because.....
Im wondering....

I have improved in making predictions and i have also started to concentrate on answering my questions. I have enjoyed doing independent reading because it helps me understand what i am reading and it helps me enjoy the book more.
